eLearning Samples

Tenniel Hatter SingingPart of what makes eLearning engaging (and fun to create) is making each project unique, and targeted to your specific audience to maximize impact.

Feel free to explore these brief samples of the different kinds of content I can create for you with rapid development tools like Articulate Storyline and Articulate Rise. For more information, please visit my Learning Consulting page or contact me. And check back; I add more samples periodically as time allows.

To learn how you can review Storyline samples on your iPad, please click here to launch a step-by-step guide.

Keep in mind that eLearning isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.  For some training needs, the best tool may be a simple, no-nonsense job aid.  I create those, too.

SAMPLE: Interactive Process Overview

Interactive eLearning Overview

In this brief module I provide you with a quick overview of the process for turning your content into eLearning. At the same time, this module is also a mini-sampler of the kind of elements we can add to any course we create together.  I built this sample using Articulate Rise, an online development tool that produces fully responsive eLearning modules.  That means you can view this sample on any device (laptop, tablet, smartphone) and the contents will rearrange automatically to optimize your viewing experience on that device.  Rise is nowhere near as fully-featured as Articulate Storyline, but it’s a great tool for creating informational courses with some stylish interactions for less time and less money.  And the fully responsive design means your course will look good no matter how your learners access it.  I can publish Rise and Storyline courses for your Learning Management System (LMS) or just for the web, depending on what you need.

Onboarding SampleSAMPLE: Interactive Onboarding

These days, smart companies develop entire onboarding processes that help their new hire learn the basics of succeeding at their company before the new employee’s first day. Here, I created an imaginary weight loss firm, BestWeight, and used a different shape for the course player. This sample module jumps right into the action with a touch of gamification,  grabbing the viewer’s interest right away.

Do you have a lot of information to share with your learners, and do you need a different and engaging way to present it?  Consider presenting some of your information in the form of a “soundboard.”  Learners engage with your content by clicking various objects on a slide, and are rewarded with brief audio clips.  The clips could be motivational, informational, or just plain funny.  I can help you find ways to engage all of your learner’s senses in your courseware, not just their eyes.

Sample Exploratory Navigation

Sometimes presenting your content in a linear, 1-2-3-4-5 way makes sense.  But if you’re looking for a way to encourage engagement, consider using course navigation elements that allow your learner to explore your content more freely.  Adult learners value independence highly, and by offering it, you’re inviting them to engage more actively with your content.  In this template example, I use exploratory navigation combined with a scenario-based approach and a hint of gamification to involve your learner in creating the positive outcome you’re seeking.  You can read more about what went into this template here.

Most eLearning narrators and characters tend to be sweet and charming.  But sometimes offering a different kind of character can both wake up and entertain your audience.  And when people are being entertained, they’re also learning without even thinking about it.  This sample imagines a target audience that has grown up watching shows like “South Park.”  Read more about this sample here.

Manager Interaction Sample Image SAMPLE: Manager Training Intro with Flat Graphics

This is a sample of both the “flat graphics” visual style that is so popular these days, as well as an approach to the start of a new manager training module.  Imagine introducing the manager to a virtual office environment like this one, and then engaging them in various real-world scenarios involving their team members and projects.  The manager’s decisions would then dictate what happens next…the possibilities are endless!  Learn more about this sample here.

SAMPLE: Interactive Game with Branching

This sample was my response to another weekly eLearning Challenge on the Articulate Forums. The challenge was to create a call center training sample in any style. I opted to use Storyline’s illustrated avatar characters and put them into comic book-style frames. I also use humor to make some very real points. This approach would resonate well with an audience of learners who enjoy comic books and graphic novels.  Read more about this sample here.

Exploratory Exercise

This sample started out as my response to a weekly eLearning Challenge on the Articulate Forums. The challenge was to describe your audio setup, share a picture, and provide three audio setup tips. I decided the best solution was a single interactive photo. You will note that I use humor here. When learners have a little fun, they learn a little more. You can find more information about this sample here.

Smarter ObjectivesSAMPLE: View-only Information Video

This sample is a movie-style, non-interactive video. In this demo, I explain how you can take your SMART learning objectives and make them even SMARTER by adding two key elements to your instructional design planning. This content started out as one of my blog posts, and now I’ve repurposed that audio to create this instructional video. Repurposing can save time and money.

SAMPLE: Variables, Conditions, and a Screencast

This playful sample is a promo piece for a non-profit’s web site. To the visitor, gaining the information is very simple; all they have to do is click the “book.” Behind the scenes, however, I am using two advanced features, Variables and Conditions, to control the interaction. The brief screencast at the end is view-only; I can also create interactive versions and quiz versions.
